Qur'an Institute Instructor
Sr. Maha Rashed
Sr. Maha has more than 17 years of experience teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in the United States and Japan. She has authored a book, "Learn How to Read and Recite Al-Quran" which is being used as part of Islamic School curricula in the USA, Canada, and the U.K.
Originally from Egypt, Sr. Maha lived in the United States for 7 years and in Japan for 6 years.
"Alhumdullilah, I learned a lot from both cultures. Traveling taught me that the best way to learn a new language is to live the language rather than to study it. From there, I started to implement this concept in Arabic teaching," says Sr. Maha.
During her stay in Kuwait, Allah blessed her to attend multiple classes in Islamic sciences and she was awarded first place in the yearly Quran competition organized by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

Sr. Eman Badr
Sr. Eman Badr has been teaching Qur'an in Dar-us-Salaam's part-time hifzh program for many years and has been a source of inspiration for many sisters in the community.
She has taught seminars and intensive tafseer courses for the Quran Institute over the years.

Br. Hayat Marso
Hayat Marso was born in Pakistan and immigrated to USA with his family when he was fourteen years old. He then memorized the Noble Qurān in 2011 at Dar-us-Salaam's Hifdh School in College Park, Maryland, under the guidance of Shaykh Mohammad Nahavandi.
He holds a bachelors degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) in Psychology.
In 2017, he began formally studying at the Islamic University of Madinah and earned his associates from the Arabic Language Program for Non-Arabic Speakers in 2019 and a bachelors from the College of Noble Qurān and Islamic Studies in 2023 becoming the fourth American to graduate from the College of Noble Qurān.
He also received a diploma in Arabic from the Madinah Arabic Tuition Center and Arabi Center for Arabic Studies in Alexandria, Egypt.
Since completing the memorization of the Qurān, Br.Hayat has been studying Islam and its sciences under various teachers and has received ijāzāt in different Qirāāt from the teachers of Masjid An-Nabawi. He has led Tarawēh in multiple states in America such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Shaykh Mohammad Nahavandi is a teacher at Dar-us-Salaam's full time hifzh program and has inspired multitudes of students in the path of the Qur'an.

Sr. Alia Rashid
Sr. Alia is a "hafidhah" with over 20 years of experience teaching students from the ages of 5 - 75 years.
She has been teaching an online hifzh class in the Qur'an Institute for the past 3 years with a dedicated group of students who attend year round. These students memorize an average of 2- 4 ajzaa per year and their class focuses on memorization with a heavy emphasis on review.
A deep understanding of how learning takes place in the West has motivated Sr. Alia to teach Quran. She finds it important to instill the love of Qur'an in the hearts, and loves to see kids succeed and develop a love for the Quran.

Br. Athar Aziz
Br. Athar Aziz, an experienced educator with certifications in Tajweed, Classical Arabic, and public speaking. With over a decade of teaching, He has worked with diverse learners, fostering a deep appreciation for the Quran, refining Tajweed skills, and delivering impactful speeches.
Studying under esteemed scholars, he has gained profound insights into Quranic interpretation and Arabic nuances. His mission is to cultivate lasting connections with the Quran, empowering students to excel in their recitation, understanding, and application.

Sr. Fatma Fadlelmola
Sr. Fatma Fadlelmola has been teaching Quran and Islamic Studies for 6 years. She finished memorizing the Quran in 2018 at the Dar-us-Salaam Hifzh School Program and graduated from Al-Huda School in 2020. She is currently a Junior at the University of Maryland pursuing a degree in IT.
She is passionate about sharing her knowledge to benefit future generations and contribute to the Muslim community. Her prior role as a substitute Quran teacher at the Quran Institute was a fulfilling experience, motivating her to take on a more significant teaching role.

Sr. Omaima Hamdan
Sr. Omaima Hamdan, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Education. From 2014 to 2019, she started teaching Al-Qaida Al-Nouraniah and Qur’an at her local masjid.
Then, in late 2019, she also started teaching online classes during the weekend, at the Qur'an Institute.
She recently obtained a certificate from Al-Furqan Academy in reading and recitation of the Qur’an, passing Level 2 of the program with an excellent status.

Sr. Hafsa Habibullah
Hafsa Habibullah was born and raised in central Pennsylvania. She attended Al-Huda School PA from kindergarten until she graduated from high school. She completed her hifdh of the Qur’an at the age of 11 with Shaykh Abdullahi Mahamud, and she received her Ijaazah in the Riwaya of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim in 2023.
Hafsa is currently a junior at Penn State University completing a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS). She is also completing a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies at Mishkah University, where she is studying Hadith, Qur’anic Sciences, Fiqh, Tafseer, Tajweed, and a variety of other Islamic Sciences.
She has been a teacher at the Qur’an Institute since 2020 and also participates in the Khairukum Ramadan program every year.

Br. Talha Muhib
Br. Talha is an alum of the DUS full-time Hifzh program. He studied under Shiekh Mohammad Nahavandi from 2014 to 2016, and has been helping on and off with the DUS QI program since 2018.
"Teaching the Qur'an feels rewarding in the long run, because like our Prophet (SAW) said, 'The best among you are those learn the Qur'an and teach it.' - (Bukhari)," says Br. Talha.
"I started off not knowing any Juz from the Qur'an, and Alhamdulillah my teachers helped me all the the way through. Insha Allah we'll be able to help as you well."

Sr. Maryam Elfadly
Sr. Maryam Elfadly's Quran journey started when she was very young. She was put in part-time Quran classes at the Quran institute from elementary school until middle school. During 9th grade she entered hifzh school and started her journey of memorizing the entire Quran. Alhamdulillah. she finished 1 1/2 years later in 2018.
Since then she has taken a reading ijaza and tutored many students in the reading and memorization of the Quran.
She has worked at the Qur'an Institute, the MCC Sunday School, Al-Tibyaan, and Al-Huda Summer Camp.
She hopes to aid and inspire people in their Quran journey which will ultimately lead to success in this life and the next!!

Br. Habeeb Marso
Br. Habeeb Marso is a graduate of the Dar-us-Salaam Hifzh School.
He finished memorizing the Qurān in 2011 under Sheikh Mohammad Nahavandi, and it was with the guidance of Sheikh Nahavandi and Sheikh Zahid Adetoro that he began leading salah and taraweeh in order to perfect his recitation.
He learned tajwēd from Sheikha Entisar Reda Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sheikh Haroon Baqai. He also learned the different recitations of the Qurān under Sheikh Ali Roach and Sheikh Hosam Shabara.
He has since obtained an ijāzah in the recitation of Hafs from al-Fēl and az-Zar‘ān and ‘Āsim from Ash- Shātibiyyah from Sheikh Mohamed ibn Kemal ibn Mahmoud ibn Aly.
Under Sheikh Mohamed ibn Kemal, he learned the different sciences of Qurān such as the writing of the Mushāf (رَسْمُ الْمُصْحَفِ) and the numbering of the verses (ِعَدِّ الْآي).
Br. Habeeb also has an ijaazah in Al Qawā‘id an-Nōrāniyyah from Sheikh Noor Mohammad Ar-Ra’ee. He studied with Dr. Mohammed Hasan and got a diploma in ‘Arabic from the Madinah ‘Arabic Tuition Center and ‘Arabi Center for ‘Arabic Studies in Alexandria, Egypt.

Sr. Hanan Masri
Sr. Hanan is committed to fostering a deep connection with the Quran among her students through an interactive classroom that encourages spiritual growth and discovering the beauty of the Book of Allah.
Insha' Allah, this will be her fourth year teaching for the Quran Institute.

Zakia Bharde
Sr.Zakia has been a student of the Quran from a very young age. After taking on extra Quran memorization and tajweed classes over the years, she joined Dar-us-Salaam's Hifzh School program and was able to graduate by 2019.
She then proceeded to get a certification in memorization and spent over 2 years taking intensive Arabic grammar courses alongside her academic commitments. She is currently pursuing a degree at the University of Maryland.
Sr. Zakia has been teaching the Quran for more than three years to a variety of students, ranging from ages 4 to 72 years. She has experience teaching in organized school settings as well as one-on-one.
Her love for teaching is rooted to the joy of helping her students start their Quran journey from the bottom and watching them progress into proficient and yearning students of the Book of Allah.

Sr. Fatimah graduated from the Al-Tibyaan Qur'an memorization school in 2020, and has been volunteering at the Qur'an Institute since then. She has an ijazah in reading.
She enjoys helping people on their Qur'an journey.

Br. Samir is an alumni of the Al-Huda Hifzh School program. Since he was younger, he has benefitted immensely from the Qur'an programs at Dar-us-Salaam.

Br. El Hadji has been a student at Al-Huda School for over 13 years, being in the Hifz School for 3 of those years.
"Working in the Ramadan Khairukum program was my first time teaching Quran, and I really benefited from it.," says Br. El Hadji.
"From that experience I learned how to better help others with reading Quran, and I learned how amazing it is to help others in their journeys with the book of Allah in any capacity. Alhamdulilah, I am blessed to have been given that opportunity."

Sr. Ayesha is a mother of five children and the Instructor at Aqabah Martial Arts program.
"This was the first time for me experiencing the role of a facilitator," says Sr. Ayehsa. " I was nervous, but wanted to give it a try. I love reciting the Qur'an and thought to myself, there is no better way to spend these blessed time during Ramadan surrounded by sisters who have the same goal as myself.
