Program Description

Bridge to Reading Quran (Levels 1-4)

Using the same Al-Huda School curriculum for reading the Qur’an, Bridge-to-Reading teaches young students how to be strong readers.

Level 1 begins with alphabet recognition and vowel markings and by Level 4, students are able to read pages independently from the mushaf. Bridge-to-Reading utilizes Sr. Rola Odeh’s books which are based on the classical “Qa’idah Nurraniyah”  with added colorful activities and practice exercises on the concepts introduced.

Book 1 is used for levels 1-2 and Book 2 is used for levels 3-4.

Timings for weekend class: Sat & Sun (11 am - 1 pm)

Timings for weekday, after-school class (brothers & sisters): Mon and Wed (4 pm-6 pm)

Mus-haf Reading

Memorization is much easier when the student can read fluently from the mushaf.

This class helps to develop reading skills by working on accuracy and fluency of reading. It is divided into three levels - beginning, intermediate and advanced. By the end of the advanced level, a reader should be able to open any page of the mus-haf  and read it quickly and correctly.

The Beginning level is for readers who have just completed the Bridge to Reading Quran or Qaidah Nuraniyah course and are transitioning to mus-haf reading. At this level, the student may need frequent reminders on how to apply reading rules they have previously learned and they would be “slower” readers as they build confidence in their reading abilities.

At the Intermediate level, the student has become much more confident in their reading ability and is able to read without much help from the teacher. They would be learning how to identify tajweed rules and apply them (even though they may not know the names of the tajweed rules). The emphasis at this level is on building fluency and speed of reading.

At the Advanced level, the student is expected to be a fluent and accurate reader who is able to implement basic rules of tajweed as they read. Under the guidance of the teacher, they would complete at least one complete reading of the entire Quran during the academic year. The goal of this level is to expose the student to the whole Quran and help them develop a sense of familiarity with the surahs in it, in order to prepare them to start a memorization program.

Timings for weekend class: Sat & Sun (11 am - 1 pm)

Part-Time Hifzh (Weekends & After School)

For those who are not able to commit to a full-time hifzh program, the Qur’an Institute offers a part-time memorization option. These classes are individually paced and are conducted twice a week (with a weekend-only option or a twice weekly after-school option). They are open to boys and girls and adult brothers and sisters, who can read fluently from the mus-haf.

Depending on the individual pacing, students have been able to memorize between one and five ajzaa in this class during the academic year.

This class is also individually paced with daily memorization and review assignments.
